Hello Dead Meat Society,
Donβt cry because Summer is nearly over, cry (happy tears) because BBQ season never ends. Show us what youβre cooking in the Dead Meat Society Facebook group or tag us on Instagram.
Now, hereβs what weβve been cooking up all weekβ¦
First up, Pecan Lodge brisket is flying first class now, and it might just mean the golden age of travel is coming back. Plus, the cheap steak cuts experts swear punch above their price.
And for a little summer deliciousness: Grilled Halloumi, Smoked Prime Rib, and Smoked Chocolate Mousse for dessert.

Every week, we crown the DMS champion of BBQ. And there are only two ways to enter: 1) Submit a pic to the Dead Meat Society Facebook Group 2) Tag us on Instagram. If you arenβt sharing (and competing), what the hell are you waiting for?
And remember, the stakes have never been higher!
Our weekly DMS Smokeshow winner will receive a FREE Stars & Stripes DMS T-shirt, PLUSβ¦
Each month, one of the weekly DMS Smokeshow winners (the best of the best) will have $1,000 donated to their local food bank

That one story that will make you infinitely more interesting than your know-it-all brother-in-law. Seriously, wtf is that guyβs deal?
MILE-HIGH BRISKET
Anybody remember those days when flying was the good part of the trip?
Planes used to be a real luxurious experience⦠especially when it came to the food.
Some of us in the Dead Meat Society can even remember real plates, real forks, and a meal on a domestic flight.
Now all we get is tiny bus seats and a mini-bottle of booze as long as you can tap-to-pay. Oh, and that little sleeve of nine pretzels that you have to ration to make last.
What is a true lover of food to do in the terrible world of modern travel?
(Obviously, hook up a towable camping grill and turn your trip into a road trip, duh.)
But assuming you have to take a flight now and then, thereβs good news for you.
As long as you can guarantee a connection in DFWβ¦

BRISKET ON BOARD
Turns out American Airlines just gave us in the Dead Meat Society the only thing we care about: meat.
Welcome to the new DFW AA flight centerpiece, Pecan Lodge barbecue in first class.
The Deep Ellum smokehouse (you know, the one with the line out the door daily) is dropping hot BBQ on domestic flights.
For lunch: chopped brisket sandwich on a brioche bun. Yes.
For dinner: the full platter of brisket and sausage, mac and cheese, slaw, pickles, onions, and signature sauce.
That cheap bag of pretzels can go straight to hell.
UP IN THE AIR
We want to believe, we really, really want toβ¦
But if thereβs one thing air travel has done, itβs made skeptics of all of us. Weβre all too familiar with how terrible the experience is by now.

Pitmaster Justin Fourton says quality was top of mind at all times, but we canβt help picturing a distraught flight attendant microwaving what was once beautiful brisket into a chewy messβ¦
Thereβs only one way we can know for sure.
Group vacation, anyone?

Like the memes you send back and forth in your group chat, except these wonβt get you canceled. Oh, and lots more grill marks.
π₯© SISTER SMOKE: Culverβs has a lesser-known sibling slinging a full low-and-slow BBQ menu, and BBQ nerds (so, us) should know its name.
π₯© SCREEN MEAT: Marilyn Monroe had a very particular taste in cuts of meat and one favorite way to cook them.
π₯© FAST FIRE: Fourteen grilled dinners that can be on the table in 30 minutes or less.
π₯© BUDGET BEEF: The cheap steak cuts experts say punch way above their price.

Like a Paula Deen cookbook, but with less butter and more BBQ sauce.

A happy ending just for you.
Thatβs it for this week. If you make any of the recipes above, youβre legally obligated to share pics on the DMS Facebook Group or tag us on Instagram so we can feature them next week (sorry, we donβt make the rules).
And since the only thing that is better than grill marks and ice-cold beer is grill marks and ice-cold beer with a side of dad jokes, weβll leave this right hereβ¦
